Inspired by the beloved film, the romantic and adventure-filled new musical Anastasia is coming to the State Theatre of New Jersey in New Brunswick. From the Tony Award-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime, this show transports viewers from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.

Anastasia features a book by playwright Terrence McNally, a new score by Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics) based on original direction by Tony Award-winner Darko Tresnjak, with choreography by Peggy Hickey and tour direction by Sarah Hartmann. The show is recommended for children and families of all ages.

Performance dates are Friday, December 3 at 8 p.m., Saturday, December 4 at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 5 at 1 and 7 p.m.

A special pre-performance talk is scheduled for Saturday, December 4 at 7:15 p.m. with the production following at 8 p.m. The 45-minute pre-performance talk will offer insight into the actual history behind the play, as well as the mystery of the many women who claimed to be the Russian heiress.
