Celebrating nature, habitats, feathered friends, and human creativity, the 3rd annual Best of the Nest: Birdhouse Competition and Display will be at Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, Bucks County, Pa., April 20 through May 25.
The event is presented in partnership with AIA Bucks County and the Honey Hollow Nature Center. The deadline to enter is April 8. Click here to register your entry.
The event showcases unique birdhouses designed and built by members of the public. Architects and bird experts name winners in each category.
On Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m., upstairs in the Cock ’n Bull Restaurant, join AIA Bucks County and the Honey Hollow Nature Center for a two-part presentation, “Birds and Boxes,” that will help improve your birdhouse — and your chances of winning a prize. Learn about bird habitats and behaviors and basic birdhouse design principles such as form and function to help you create your own special home for birds. The presentation will include a question-and-answer session.
Part One is “Fantastic Feathered Friends,” presented by the Honey Hollow Nature Center. Learn about the habitats and behaviors of some of the birds of Bucks County, and the kinds of houses different birds like to live in.
Part Two is “Birdhouse Style — Thinking Outside the Box,” presented by members of the Bucks County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This presentation will feature a brief history of birdhouses, the elements of birdhouses, and what makes each house unique, diving into the rules for Best of the Nest, basic design principles such as form and function, and provide inspiration.
