Butterfly Count at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve
Are you looking for a fun and peaceful morning? Join guests and volunteers at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve on Saturday, July 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the 2021 North American Butterfly Association (NABA) Butterfly Count. Admission is $3 per participant.
Counting butterflies helps scientists piece together changes over time in the distribution and population size of each represented species. Mary Anne Borge, Preserve naturalist, will teach newcomers how to identify the different types of butterflies and native plants they depend on for nectar and caterpillar food.
Be sure to bring binoculars, a camera with a zoom lens, and a field guide, if you have one. Make sure to wear suitable clothing and shoes, along with plenty of water and appropriate sun protection. Guests should meet at the Visitor Center. Advance registration is required at https://bhwp.org/item/north-american-butterfly-association-naba-butterfly-count-2021/#tab-description.
