Halloween is right around the corner, and that means it’s time to plan for the Arts Council of Princeton’s Annual Hometown Halloween Parade! This year’s event will be held on Friday, October 27 from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Participants should gather on the Green at Palmer Square, 40 Nassau Street. more

Twenty Sailors, assigned to Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59), visited their ship’s namesake city June 6-8 to engage with the community, share the Navy’s story, and learn more about the historical connection to their vessel’s namesake.

During the visit, the crew met with the mayor, city officials, and public figures, toured the campus of Princeton University with NROTC representatives, visited important landmarks, and gave presentations at the local schools.  more

On Wednesday, December 7, Princeton Theological Seminary warmly welcomes the public back to the school’s annual Carols of Many Nations services in the Seminary Chapel. These services will take place at 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. Seasonal readings will be conducted in the many languages represented by the Princeton Theological Seminary students and staff. Arabic, French, Ogworok, Italian, Kachin, Malayalam, Mizo, Swedish, and Ukrainian are just some of the spoken languages visitors will hear.  more

Skating on the Square in Princeton’s historic Palmer Square reopens on Saturday, November 19 and will run through Sunday, February 26. Located on Hulfish Street behind the Nassau Inn, the “Glice rink” is not a traditional ice rink, but instead is made from heat-pressed polymers (no water or electricity required). The materials used in the rink are 100 percent recyclable and environmentally friendly. Another bonus is that no matter the outdoor temperature, the Glice rink is always open for skating (even if there’s a chance 50-degree day in December).  more

On Saturday, November 19 from 2 to 3 p.m., Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve presents a special event with French native and master falconer Gregory Wojtera. The program will introduce the audience to the history and significance of falconry as it relates to both the past and present. It will also touch on the biology and natural history of our native raptor species and their longstanding cohabitation and means of communication with humans.  more

Go the distance for all youth in the HiTOPS Princeton Half Marathon on November 13. In-person, virtual and youth run options means that there is a race for everyone. The 13.1-mile course starts and finishes at Paul Robeson Place. The Victory Village will be stationed at Princeton YMCA and all racers will receive a commemorative medal, shirt, and bib. Participants cannot exceed a 14-minute mile and the field of racers is limited to 1,800.  more

The beloved Princeton Children’s Book Festival returns on Saturday, October 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Princeton Public Library and Hinds Plaza. This largely outdoor, in-person event brings together some of the most popular children’s book authors and illustrators, giving families the opportunity to meet their children’s favorite storybook creators. Book sales for the event will be available from jaZams in downtown Princeton. Authors and illustrators will be available to sign personalized copies and describe some of the details and inspirations behind their books. more

Washington Crossing Historic Park will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Sunday, May 29 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the gravesite of Continental soldiers located near the Thompson-Neely House. 

The observation will include a Colonial color guard, fife and drum music, Revolutionary War reenactors, veterans, and other honored guests. The keynote address will be delivered by USAF veteran Frank Lyons. At the ceremony, the Daughters of the American Revolution will dedicate a plaque at the original gravesite of 24-year-old Captain Lieutenant James Moore. Moore served in Captain Alexander Hamilton’s New York Artillery Unit before his death on December 25, 1776. more

After a two-year absence due to COVID-19, Montgomery’s annual Independence Day fireworks display will return the evening of Thursday, June 30 at Montgomery High School. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with vendors, music, and games for children.  more

The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) promises to deliver an all-new, outdoor Princeton Festival June 10-25, with a cohesive campus plan, community cooperation, and exciting artists. A cadre of opera singers are poised to inhabit the comic characters of Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg and W.A. Mozart’s The Impresario, as well as Benjamin Britten’s full-length opera Albert Herring. Concerts featuring top performers such as Storm Large, the Signum Quartet, and Baroque ensemble The Sebastians ensure multiple evenings of first-rate, live music covering a variety of genres of yesterday and today. more

Morven Museum’s Festival of Trees will be on view Wednesdays through Sundays from November 17 to January 10, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This holiday tradition will celebrate its 16th year with a juried collection of themed trees and mantels displayed throughout the museum’s galleries, all decorated by members of garden clubs and organizations. 

This year’s decorators include American Spaniel Club, Contemporary Garden Club, Mount Laurel Garden Club, New Jersey Audubon Society, Nottingham Garden Club, Princeton Public Library, Stony Brook Garden Club, The Garden Club of Princeton, The Present Day Club, and West Trenton Garden Club.  more

The HiTOPS Princeton Half Marathon will offer in-person and virtual race options on Sunday, November 14. There will also be special youth run options for the youngest athletes.
