New Jersey Symphony: Jessie Montgomery & Mozart
On Sunday, November 20 at 3 p.m., the State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick welcomes the New Jersey Symphony conducted by George Manahan and Awadagin Pratt on piano. Ticket prices range from $25 to $92.
Mozart’s Symphony No. 38, Prague, is brought to life by past Interim Music Director George Manahan, who was with the Symphony from 1983 through 1985. Mozart did not write the symphony for Prague specifically, but this grand work of mixed emotions became a gift to the city.
Rounds, a new piano concerto for piano and string orchestra by Jessie Montgomery, premiered in March 2022 in South Carolina with acclaimed pianist Awadagin Pratt at the keys. Pratt will offer his performance at the State Theatre for New Jersey’s eager audiences.
The New Jersey Symphony event will conclude with Strauss’ suite from Le bourgeois gentilhomme. Strauss took incidental music he wrote from a revival of Moliere’s comedic play and compiled an orchestral suite ideally suited for the State Theatre’s dramatic stage.
