If you are curious about what police work really looks like in Princeton, the Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy offers a behind-the-scenes, hands-on look at the day-to-day responsibilities of law enforcement, taught by the officers who serve the Princeton community.
The sessions will take place every Thursday from April 16 through June 4, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Princeton Police Department at 1 Valley Road.
Participants will explore a variety of topics, including police operations, investigations, traffic enforcement, and more. There will be plenty of time for questions and conversation.
The Citizen Police Academy is free and is on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum enrollment of 20 people. The application process opens February 23.
To be eligible, one must be a Princeton resident and must be able to attend at least six classes. Applicants must be 21 years old, submit a completed application, and pass a background check.
The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to give the public a working knowledge and understanding of the operations of the police department and of law enforcement in general. A ride-along program will be implemented to allow each participant to observe patrol functions firsthand.
Applications can be obtained at Citizen Academy Application or at police headquarters. Once applications are received and background investigations have been completed, approved applicants will be provided with the academy agenda.
