Six seniors from the George School Class of 2021 have committed to college athletic programs. The student athletes — in four different sports — celebrated their commitment to pursue their passion at the college level next year. In a ceremony held in the Fitness and Athletics Center, each senior was recognized by their families, coaches, teammates, and friends on Friday, May 21, 2021.
The students included Jacob Bright ’21, Lauren Hanna ’21, Angelo Leon ’21, Kaliyah Myricks ’21, Alexis Semidey-Martinez ’21, and Aqua Withers Carello ’21.
Jacob Bright ’21: Cross Country/Track, Connecticut College. Despite playing soccer in the fall at George School, Jacob’s commitment and success during the winter and spring track seasons have led him to run both cross country and track at Connecticut College. As a captain for the winter and spring track teams, he was a positive leader and hardworking team member. He was always a supportive teammate and brought the energy needed for the team to succeed.
Lauren Hanna ’21: Soccer, Hamilton College. Lauren is a dedicated player who has been a four-year varsity starter on the varsity girls’ soccer team. She has been a standout defender in George School’s back line leading her to become a captain her senior year and named to the Friends Schools All-League First Team. In addition to soccer, she participated in basketball each year as well as being a tour guide, peer group leader, and leader of Art for Relief (an annual fundraiser) and the Special Olympics Club.
Angelo Leon ’21: Football, Washington and Jefferson College. Angelo was a part of the varsity football team for all four years and was a three-year starter during his time at George School. He was a two-year captain and a tremendous leader on the team. This year, he received the Mini Maxwell Award, an award presented to high school football players based on academics, on-field performance, and commitment to community service.
Kaliyah Myricks ’21: Basketball, Georgetown University. In her basketball career at George School, Kaliyah played an important role in the success of the team. As a captain, Kaliyah showed her leadership on and off the court. Her dominant post and tenacious rebounding are only some of the many elements that make her the outstanding player that she is, leading her to be named to the Friends Schools All-League First Team. Kaliyah’s commitment to Georgetown in the Division 1 Big East league was a result of her hard work and talent.
Alexis Semidey-Martinez ’21: Basketball, Colby College. In her three years at George School, Alexis was part of the varsity basketball team and served as a captain her senior year. Alexis was consistent with her tireless effort and dedication to the sport in order to benefit her team overall. Alexis will play for Coach Harris-Smith for the continued success of Colby’s basketball program.
Aqua Withers Carello ’21: Basketball, Swarthmore College. Aqua played volleyball and basketball all four years at George School. With her strong work ethic, she was able to find success both on and off the court. She was consistently contributing her time and effort to her team, and she will continue to do so in her basketball career at Swarthmore College as she will go on to play for Coach Signor-Brown.
