
“The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution” is an exhibition running through December 31 at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, Pa., that explores the history and intrigue of a group of Revolutionary War-era Loyalists who were called both villains and heroes.
The exhibition looks at the Gang’s criminal exploits throughout the region and explores the conflicts that arose among neighbors, friends, and families in Bucks County who were forced to choose sides during a time of great political and social unrest.
Special events connected to the exhibit include “Outlaws in the Underworld: Bucks County Caves and the Doan Gang,” which will look at whether the Doan Gang hid out in local caves while they were on the run at the time of the American Revolution. A “Coffee and Doan-uts” tour is planned for Fridays, March 20 and April 24, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for an exclusive early-bird guided tour of the exhibition.

“Doans and the Revolution” is planned for Sunday, March 22, from 2 to 3 p.m. Come for an afternoon of stories about the Doan Gang’s exploits in Bucks County, including events such as the Loyalist raid of the Bird in the Hand tavern in Newtown, Pa., and the Battle of Crooked Billet near Hatboro, Pa.
On Thursday, April 30, “Spill the Tea! The Making of the Doan Exhibition” is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Curators “tell all” in a behind-the-scenes tour of “The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution” about how these artifacts and stories came together.
