Trenton Farmers Market — It’s the Season

Tart blueberries, sweet cherries, and fresh from the farm beets, broccoli, and spinach are at the height of their seasons now, and available at the historic Trenton Farmers Market, 960 Spruce Street, Lawrence Township. Also find homemade breads, pies, and specialty items.

A farmer-owned cooperative since 1939, the market is New Jersey’s oldest continuously running farmers market. In the early 1900s, a group of farmers came by horse and carriage to Trenton to sell their produce near the “Trenton Makes” bridge. In 1939, in anticipation of the building of Route 29, the Trenton Market Growers Cooperative Association purchased property in Lawrence Township, opening in 1948. Outdoor stalls gave way to an indoor facility with overhead doors to give the market its open, outdoor look.

The six farms in the marketplace are members of the Farmer Cooperative and several serve as board members. They include Cedarville Farm, Corner Copia Farms, Pineland Farms, Russo’s Fruit and Vegetable Farm, Terhune Orchards, and Zell’s Farm.

Summer Hours are Wednesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The market can be reached at 609.695.2998. For more information, visit trentonfarmersmarket.com.
