Walk with Friends of Princeton Open Space

(Sparrow photo by Melissa Dizik)

Join Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS) for a peaceful and contemplative nature walk on Saturday, January 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. through the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve, 57 Mountain Avenue. Participants will meet at the Mountain Lakes House.

Led by the FOPOS stewardship team, this guided walk will offer a chance to explore the quiet, wintery landscape and discover the unique beauty of the preserve during the colder months. The walk will focus on how the local wildlife adapts to winter conditions, how plant life responds to the season, and the role the preserve plays in supporting biodiversity year-round.  The stewardship team will also share insights into the history of the preserve and the ongoing land stewardship efforts that help protect the area for future generations.

The Mountain Lakes Open Space Area consists of some 400 acres just north of the center of Princeton, most of it open to the public. It has a wide variety of hiking trails and two biking trails, and a view of the estate built by John Witherspoon and historic Coventry Farm.

FOPOS, founded in 1969, is a nonprofit organization devoted to acquiring open space for preservation in Princeton, protecting natural resources, maintaining accessibility to trails, and providing environmental education. Throughout the region, its mission is to work with groups to support efforts to preserve and protect open space and the environment.

Sign up for the January Nature Walk on Eventbrite.
